Hiring Bilingual Psychiatrists for Latino Unit at Bellevue Hospital

The New York University (NYU) Affiliated Bellevue Psychiatry Service is located in the flagship hospital of New York City’s Health and Hospitals, the nation’s largest municipal health care system with the largest public psychiatry service in the country. NYU Bellevue Psychiatry is the primary psychiatry and addictions training site for NYU medical students, psychiatry residents, fellows, and psychology interns, and serves as a site for innovative multidisciplinary clinical research.

The Latino Unit is one of many specialized programs available at Bellevue designed to meet the needs of our large and diverse patient population. It is one of two linguistically specialized psychiatry units at Bellevue, providing a full range of inpatient care to patients whose preferred language is Spanish. Bilingual members of the multidisciplinary team engage patients individually and in groups, and provide a milieu that is bilingual for both patients and family members.

We are recruiting bilingual (Spanish and English) psychiatrists to work on the Latino Unit, including a unit chief to shepherd the program through a time of growth and transition. In addition to providing direct clinical care to patients, the unit chief directly supervises two prescribers (MD or NP) and one psychologist; supervises medical student, resident, and nurse practitioner student rotations for trainees from NYU as well as outside institutions; directs multidisciplinary treatment team meetings daily and staff meetings monthly; and works with psychiatric nursing, social work, and activity therapy leadership to ensure high quality and safe care from all disciplines.

The positions include clinical as well as educational and training opportunities in the NYU Department of Psychiatry, and qualified candidates are eligible for faculty appointment at a suitable rank at the NYU School of Medicine. No after-hours coverage is required, but numerous moonlighting opportunities are available at competitive hourly rates.
