Call for Nominations

2026 Dr. Pedro Ruiz – Lifetime Achievement Award

Each year, the American Society of Hispanic Psychiatry (ASHP) honors a group of exceptional individuals whose careers, lifetime service, clinical work, educational efforts, or community projects have significantly impacted the mental health of Hispanic/Latinx populations in the U.S., Latin America, and globally. The ASHP remains committed to recognizing distinguished Hispanic/Latinx professionals for their outstanding contributions to psychiatry and mental health

The Pedro Ruiz Award, in recognition of Dr. Ruiz’s legacy, honors pioneering leaders, mentors, and advocates just as Dr. Ruiz’s lifelong dedication to advancing psychiatric care for Hispanic communities, addressing mental health inequities, and nurturing future generations of mental health professionals continues to inspire our work. This award is a tribute to his remarkable contributions and enduring impact.

In 2025, ASHP will spotlight excellence in Social Psychiatry, recognizing work that advances understanding of the social determinants of mental health, promotes community-based and population-focused interventions, and addresses structural inequities affecting Hispanic/Latinx communities. The award will be presented at our Noche de Honor on May 15th, 2026, during the ASHP Annual Meeting (May 14th–15th) in San Francisco, which will also feature the continuation of the Critical Research Issues in Latinx Mental Health program.
